PSHE/RSE

PSHE & Citizenship

Personal, social and health education (PSHE) and Relationships & Sex Education (RSE) helps to give children the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy and independent lives. It aims to help them to understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.

It is here that your child may learn about bullying, citizenship, drug education, healthy eating, physical activity, mental and emotional health, well-being, and sex and relationships.

Learning opportunities take place in specific lessons as well as in assemblies, small groups, circle time, special school projects and other activities that enrich pupils' experiences. The school currently uses Ten:Ten and Ten:Ten+ to deliver its curriculum for PSHE & RSE.

Throughout Early Years, children experience PSHE through the specific area of Understanding the world.

Children’s personal, social and emotional development (PSED) is crucial for children to lead healthy and happy lives, and is fundamental to their cognitive development. Underpinning their personal development are the important attachments that shape their social world. Strong, warm and supportive  relationships with adults enable children to learn how to understand their own feelings and those of others. Children should be supported to manage emotions, develop a positive sense of self, set themselves simple goals, have confidence in their own abilities, to persist and wait for what they want and direct attention as necessary. Through adult modelling and guidance, they will learn how to look after their bodies, including healthy eating, and manage personal needs independently. Through supported interaction with other children, they learn how to make good friendships, co-operate and resolve conflicts peaceably. These attributes will provide a secure platform from which children can achieve at school and in later life.

From children playing cooperatively, taking turns with others and being confident to try new activities, to talking about how they and others show feelings, children will be immersed in the world of understanding the world through continuous play and directed teaching.
